CADET HORIZONSCreating Opportunities Through Adventure
The founders
Founded by former cadets. Built for future cadets.
Why we founded Cadet Horizons
Cadet Horizons is rooted in first-hand experience of what challenge, trust, leadership and belonging can give a young person.
Jeremy Pitman and Alan Etherton created Cadet Horizons to place that experience in service of something beyond their own expeditions. They undertake the challenges, share the journey and build the relationships—but the founders are not the purpose. The opportunity created for young people is.

Jeremy Pitman · Founder
Jeremy's journey began as an Army Cadet and continued through British Army Reserve service, including operational deployment, before returning to the cadet movement in senior leadership roles.
Those experiences showed him what responsibility, challenge and belief can unlock—and how strongly opportunity can shape the direction of a life. Cadet Horizons is the practical expression of that conviction.
Jeremy leads the organisation's purpose, strategy, partnerships and public direction, while continuing to deliver its expeditions and events.
“The activity is never the point. What it allows somebody else to become is what matters.”

Alan Etherton · Co-Founder
Alan brings experience across mountain and water-based environments, together with the practical judgement needed to turn ambitious ideas into credible activity.
His contribution broadens the horizons of the organisation beyond a single discipline. Hiking, paddling, multi-day journeys and future team challenges all sit within a model shaped by preparation, adaptability and shared responsibility.
Alan helps develop and deliver The Forged Series and International Missions, ensuring that authentic adventure remains connected to the purpose it serves.
“Credible challenge earns attention. What we do with that attention is the real test.”
How we lead
The founders will turn back when conditions demand it, speak honestly about difficulty and measure success by the standard of the decisions made—not by a summit photograph.
02 · The founder expedition record
Expeditions across Triglav, Mount Toubkal and other mountain and water environments provide a practical foundation for future Cadet Horizons activity. Every new mission is still prepared and judged on its own risks, conditions and purpose.
